Udon noodles are thick white noodles made from wheat and noted for their fine, palatable and smooth taste. Because proper udon are much thicker than ramen or soba, it is common in Japan for udon to come pre-boiled and sealed in vacuum packs to avoid spoilage. All the better to save time that can be better spent slurping those tasty noodles up!
Cook fresh udon noodles in a similar way to fresh pasta.
• Add the udon noodles to a pan of 250ml boiling water. Let boil for 1 minute.
• Add powdered soup sachet and mix through.
• Turn off the heat and transfer to a donburi bowl. Enjoy!
• Alternatively, cut a small hole in one individual bag of udon and heat up in the microwave for 2.5 minutes (500W oven). Transfer to a bowl, add soup and 200ml boiling water, stir through, and enjoy.
